Art for My Heart™ was inspired and in memory of Senior Education Ministries' director's momma, Irene Laskie.
What is Art for My Heart™?
The Art for My Heart™ program is aimed at individuals who have experienced the loss of a loved one or pet. Words aren't need when creativity through art helps you express how you feel and in turn helps to heal. There's a connection between the head, the heart, and the hand which helps them express many feelings that had previously been trapped inside. Art encourages movement of the imagination. It can influence how we release the tension of grief.
There are five stages of grief. They may be experienced as denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. Grief can feel like a roller coaster ride of ups and downs, mood swings, and erratic behavior. Through art, the grief is given a place to be held and heal.
Memories can be difficult to hold onto emotionally especially around holidays, birthdays, anniversary dates, and when seeing picture books, and mementos. They can feel like a jab to the heart, invite an unwanted memory, or open a floodgate of emotion. It is helpful to know that we are not alone in our grief. Fellowship with others can provide an atmosphere of comfort.
Our goal is to provide creative tools and the fellowship to encourage support while grieving over loss of a loved one.
Program (monthly) Just as an artist raises his/her thumb to bring the subject into focus and perspective, this art program will bring YOUR memories into focus to create an artistic masterpiece to bring YOU peace and restore joy.
